Hildegard Gunzel - Wax Over Porcelain
In creating the other dolls of her classic edition Hildegard Günzel also drew on the unlimited resources of her knowledge,
her skill and her experience. We can imagine what it means to “Rapunzel” to be confined to the tower, the
abundance of her hair arduously tamed, hitherto only a promise, waiting for the day of liberation by the prince
whom the singing from the dreaming mouth is guiding the way. “Goldilocks” and the three bears are magical. The
self-confident “Aurélie” shows us how a hoop was used in the olden days. And who doesn’t want to take “Pepin”
into their arms? He is so concentrated on a magical event and at the same time present in the Here and Now. In
contrast “Surya” seems to be an unreal appearance, grace in person in her breathtaking costume. Here Hildegard
Günzel’s skill in modelling is displayed in a perfect dance posture.
